Towards an Auditory Observatory
A Psychoacoustic Investigation of Gravitational Wave Data Through Sonification and Spatialisation Experimental Studies
This page composes of all the sonifications used in this research. (Currently) The following subtitles include timbres using FM synthesis, GW simulated signal, Timbral-synthesis in 6 noise levels, Timbral-synthesis in 6 noise levels with pseudo GW signal and the complete sonification of 2.21 minute presented to all the participants during the first experiment.

Timbral-representation using Frequency Modulation Synthesis
The three schematics presented in the following depict the FM algorithm for each; bells, violin and horn timbres, developed in Plug Data which was used to produce the sonifications. Under the images, three 3 second long audio recordings of each timbre are presented, which can be played by selecting the play button.

Timbral-Synthesis with Selected Noise Levels
Following each timbre- bells, violin and horn are presented in each noise factor i.e. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. The first column composes of bells' synthesis, the second column consists of violin synthesis and the third column (below bells') compiles horn-based synthesis.

Auditory representation of 3 GW noise channels and GW170817 signal
The method of audification was used to develop a sonification-based approach for real GW data analysis in order to retain the data’s behaviour and its intrinsic characteristics, which can be perceived in its sonic representation. Following two schematics are presented- in block I, all four audifications, whereas in block II, each sound source was displayed in four separate channels in a quadraphonic installation.
